SDU Referee Spotlight

At South Delta United, we believe that referees play a vital role in shaping a positive soccer experience for players, coaches, and families. This season, we’re proud to recognize two of our exceptional young officials whose dedication and leadership have made a real impact on our club.

🏆 Referee of the Year – Ethan Hendry-Hoff

Ethan is one of SDU’s top youth referees and a standout leader in our officiating community. Beyond his consistent professionalism and strong work ethic on the field, Ethan has gone above and beyond as a mentor to 40 new referees who joined the program this year. His commitment to supporting younger officials and setting the standard for quality officiating makes him a deserving recipient of this year’s Referee of the Year award.

Rising Star Referee – Sam Steele

Sam has made remarkable progress this season, stepping up to full-field officiating and quickly earning the respect of his peers. His confidence, knowledge, and presence on the pitch have grown tremendously, and it’s been incredible to watch him embrace new challenges with enthusiasm. Sam’s leadership and positive attitude make him a true Rising Star in our referee team.

🙌 Shoutout to Dylan Acheson – Head of Referees

Behind the scenes, none of this would be possible without the efforts of Dylan Acheson, who has worked tirelessly to recruit, train, and mentor our next generation of officials. This year alone, Dylan has supported nearly 40 new referees as they took their first steps into officiating—an incredible achievement that speaks to his dedication and passion for the game.

👏 Thank You!

To Ethan, Sam, Dylan, and every referee who gives their time and energy each weekend: thank you. Your work doesn’t go unnoticed. From all of us at SDU—players, coaches, and families—we appreciate everything you do to keep the game safe, fair, and fun.
