our CLUB History

Founded in 2016 through the merger of the Ladner and Tsawwassen soccer clubs, South Delta United (SDU) was created to unify and strengthen the soccer community in South Delta. Since then, the club has grown into a vibrant organization that fosters both player development and community spirit.

Today, SDU proudly supports almost 1,500 kids, aged 3 to 18. The club has 112 teams competing in various leagues and divisions, offering opportunities for players of all skill levels to enjoy and excel in the sport.

SDU thrives because of a combination of experienced paid staff and an incredible network of over 370 dedicated volunteers. Our paid staff coaches play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality soccer experience for all players. They lead our Skills Academy, Goalkeeping Academy, and seasonal camps, while also providing ongoing training and support for volunteer coaches. Their expertise ensures that every player, regardless of skill level, receives professional instruction and development opportunities.

Alongside our staff, we have 236 volunteer coaches, 120 team managers, a volunteer board, and numerous volunteer committee members who contribute to the club’s success. A team of 80 referees ensures every match is fair and fun. Together, this dedicated team makes possible 112 matches and 200 training sessions each week across seven fields in Ladner and Tsawwassen.

In addition to soccer, SDU hosts community events throughout the year, bringing families and friends together to celebrate teamwork and community spirit.

Since our founding, South Delta United has been a place where soccer brings people together, fosters lifelong friendships, and helps young athletes reach their potential.
